Book Review: The Power Based Life by Mike Flynt

The Power Based Life:Realize Your Life's Goals and Dreams by Strengthening Your Body, Mind & Spirit
By Mike Flynt

Author Mike Flynt describes a "power base" as the center of personal strength use to meet challenges that, once discovered and maximized, will lead to a more significant, satisfying, and successful life.

We all want to have happy, successful lives. For some of us, it takes longer than others. Flynt himself didn't come into his happy, fulfilled life until the age of 59 years old, when he received national attention for returning to his college alma mater, Sul Ross State University, to play his senior year, becoming the oldest contributing member of a college football team in NCAA history. He took the tools that he learned from his experiences to share with us 12 different strategies to use to tap into our personal "power bases."

I found this book extremely motivating and uplifting, though geared much more towards sports fans. Mike Flynt speaks often of his football career and makes many sports references, which I think are necessary for his story and this book, but were often lost on me. While reading I often thought to myself that my husband should really be reading this book. I think it would speak volumes to his entrepreneurial spirit.

I did enjoy all of the biblical references this book made, as well as the power-packed quotes by Flynt. It is clearly evident that this man's heart and soul are in his beliefs. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:
"If God has made your to do something, there will be a way to do it."
"Time is the greatest teacher there is."
"Your attitude is the single most important aspect of who you are and the leading indicator of where you're going."
I think this is a great book for anyone who is looking for a positive piece of motivation to keep them moving in the right direction, whether it be for business or another personal goal. It's a great book to have on your shelf and to come back to time after time when you need a little reminder that you are a worthy child of God and you deserve a fulfilling life.

The final chapters of the book cover everything from staying motivated, to keeping your patience, to living a longer and healthier life. Flynt really goes the distance in showing his readers from personal experience how to steer your life in the right direction for you.
